Problem starting Age of empires 2 HD edition

Earlier tonight I tried to play AOE2HD on steam with a few friends but first it didn't launch.
It just crashes on startup after clicking "play". (note it was a while ago I played it)

The launcher came up, pressed play and then fullscreen and some loading text in ~1,5 seconds, then it suddenly shutdown. No error messages or anything.

Tried with compatibility mode, tried to re-download it, verify game files, editing launch options and everything, no success.

I found an old Player.nfp file from 2014 in my "Profiles" folder, removed it, launched it, same problem, noticed the old file was back.

Went into steam again, AOE2 properties and found the steam cloud option, unchecked it and removed the Player.nfp file, then it worked!

Probably some old settings or old version of the profile saved in my cloud.
